IMPORTANT: SUPER 7

The sign up for our very own meet, the Super 7, closed last night!  We want to have as many swimmers out as possible to show their Stingray Pride, so if you missed the sign-up please email Coach Alexa ASAP with the subject line Super 7 Late Entry.

Meet Sign Ups

The sign-up for the WRASA Development Meet on Wednesday, June 19th will be closing next Wednesday (June 5th) at 9:00 pm! So if you would like your child to attend this meet please sign them up here.

Note: Deck entries are determined by each club for their meets, with many not offering the option this season. Therefore, your best chance to swim in a meet is by completing the sign up forms on our website!

Bingo Night

We are officially kicking off our House Cup Competition for the season and our first House Cup challenge of the summer is fast approaching! The first challenge is our annual Bingo night! There are some awesome prizes to be won and a lot of fun to be had. It will be taking place on Friday, June 14th at 6:30 pm at Memorial Park. There will be more details released in the following week.

The breakdown of how House Cup will run and a list of the Houses will be posted at the pool and sent out via email by Coach Alexa in the coming week!

Water Guns

If you lost a water gun after the May Days Parade please see Coach Alexa at the pool as they were returned to the pool. As well, if you accidentally took a water gun that was not yours please return it to Coach Alexa so it can be given back to its owner!

Weekly Update May 24th!

Hi Stingrays,

Here is what you need to know for the upcoming week!

Time Trials

A big thank you to all who came out and volunteered and participated in last night’s time trials event! It was a huge success and both kids and parents had a great time.

Meet Sign-Ups

Deadlines are fast approaching for some of your favourite meets! The sign up for B4 closes tonight at 9:00pm, you can access it here. As well, the sign up for the North Delta Development Meet will be closing on Wednesday May 29th at 9:00 pm, you can access it here.

SUPER 7 SIGN-UP CLOSES ON THURSDAY, MAY 30th! Please be sure to have your entries completed by this date! We are anticipating a lot of people will be signing up for this meet (we’re hoping to break 100 swimmers!), so entries take us a while to get through, hence the super early deadline. We want all of our Stingrays to come out and participate in the meet and show our Stingray Pride! You can access the sign-up sheet here.

May Days Parade Info

We are Float #50!  Please ensure all swimmers are at the Ladner Stingray float (look for the giant swimming pool with green tents) by 10:30am on Sunday, May 26 for judging. By the looks of the parade map, we will likely be parked in front of Sharkey’s. Expect to escort your swimmers to the float by foot because the roads will be blocked off at 10:00am.

Swimmers should wear Ladner Stingray shirts and bring their water guns!  We will be shaded by our tent teams but it might be good to apply sunscreen as well.  We will be eating cake as part of the float theme but please send a water bottle for your kids.  The parade does not get rolling until noon so there will be some down time before we start moving through the parade.  We hope to keep the kids busy with a dance party and water gun fight.

There is lots of room for everyone on the float – the more the merrier.  This includes Little Stingrays!

See you Sunday!

Meridian Meat Fundraiser

Our annual Meridian Meats fundraiser is now happening – one week only! The fundraising form can be found attached to Coach Alexa’s weekly update email and 10% of all gift cards purchased are credited back to your fundraising fee.

Forms with cheques (payable to Ladner Stingrays) can be left in the Howard folder or dropped through the mail slot at 4500 46 St. Forms must be received by May 31st and cards will be ready to pick up before Father’s Day. If you have any questions about this fundraiser, please contact Alison at meridian@ladnerstingrays.com.

Team Practice

Next Friday we will be having our second team practice of the season! This practice will take place at the LOP from 4:15-5:30 for regular program Stingrays . We encourage everyone to come out and join us as it is an awesome way to connect with other swimmers that may not be in your normal practice group!

Please Note: Little Stingrays will not be included in this team practice.

June Practice Schedule

We will be switching over to our June Practice Schedule on Monday June 3rd! So have a look to make sure you arrive at the right time for practices as there is some variation from the May schedule!

Weekly Update May 17th!

Hi Stingrays,

Here is what you will need to know for next week!

Victoria Day, May 20th

There will be NO PRACTICES on Monday, May 20th! This includes both regular program and Masters practices. Enjoy the long weekend!

Time Trials Sign-Up

The sign-up for Time Trials closed the evening of May 14th at 9:30pm. If you have not yet signed up, but would like to, please be sure to email your child’s coach prior to Monday May 20th at 9:30pm.

If you are planning on attending practice on the afternoon of May 23rd, you must sign-up for Time Trials, as there are no formal practices scheduled for that afternoon!

Please note, Little Stingrays are not eligible to compete in the Time Trials event, but are welcomed and encouraged to come and watch some of our fellow Stingrays race in our own pool!

Kigoos Meet Sign-Up

The sign-up for the Kigoos meet on June 1-2 closes tonight at 9:30pm! Please be sure to have your entries completed prior to this time– you can access the sign-up here.

B4 Meet Sign-Up

The sign-up for B4 will be closing on Friday May 24th at 9:30pm! If you would like to attend please be sure sign-up here.

May-Days Parade

The Stingrays will have a float in this years May Day’s Parade! The parade is on Sunday May 26th and there will be more details to come.

Little Stingrays

Practices will begin on Monday, June 3rd! We recognize that a 3:15 start time may place some families in a pinch with it being so close to the time school gets out, so there are no worries if your child arrives to practice after the 3:15 start time. The kids will be doing a 15-minute activation and sticker time prior to getting in the water, so as long as you’re able to arrive around 3:30, you’ll be good to go. Unfortunately, we have to make do with the times the Corporation has given us at LOP for this season.

Sometimes if the weather is not the greatest, the kids may get cold in the water relatively quickly. We recommend purchasing a wetsuit for your child if you know they are prone to getting cold quickly! You may be able to find some locally, or you can also find some online here.

Morning Practices

Our morning practices have began! If you are not planning on attending an AM workout, please let your coach know!!

Kelowna Ogopogo Invitational Swim Meet

The club is excited to be attending an away meet offered to the ENTIRE club this summer and would love to have as many swimmers representing the Stingrays as possible! The meet is on the weekend of July 6th-7th and the sign-up can be found here.

The following are the two accommodations where the Stingrays have booked to stay for the weekend:

  1. Best Western Plus Kelowna

2. Willow Creek Campground

COACHING CONCERNS

If at any point over the course of this season something arises with your child that you feel needs reconciliation or attention, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child’s coach! It is our job as your coaching staff to ensure a positive and successful summer season in the water for all swimmers, and we can only do so if we are made aware of any issue that may arise.

Please let us know at any point if your child is struggling, or you have any concerns, so that we may address them promptly. We’re not able to fix something if we find out about it at the end of the season, so please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Have a great weekend and we will see you at the pool next week!

Giants tickets & 50/50 Fundraiser Event

A huge thank you to all the families and coaches (Kalvin, Jemma & Helen) who participated in the very successful Giants fundraiser event on Saturday April 20, 2019. We were very fortunate to have been provided this opportunity and were able to raise over $5000 in one night! What a way to kick off the 2019 swim season!

A very special thank you to Andrea DeWolff and her family for leading this event and to Chris McDonald who was a very successful ticket seller!
